Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts' (VLA) provide advocacy as well as legal services to artists and arts organizations. They have the Art Law Line, a legal hotline; the VLA Legal Clinic for VLA members; in-house appointments with VLA staff attorneys; and pro bono placements for low-income artists and nonprofit arts organizations with one of over 1,200 volunteer attorneys.
Additionally they provide workshops that guide one through the process of establishing a 501(c)3 organization.
I recently spoke with someone who used VLA's services and was very pleased. Everything was reported accurate and professional, if a little slow- but hey it was free!
It's nice to know that you can have legal guidance on your side!
